 ALABAMA-MISSISSIPPI ALL-STAR CLASSIC
First played in 1988, the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic has established its identity as one of the South's premier football events. Annually featuring 74 of the absolute best senior high school football players and top collegiate prospects on two teams representing these two football-rich states, the game is played annually in Mobile, Alabama's Ladd-Peebles Stadium on the second Saturday in December
Over the past 21 years, the contest has built an impressive legacy of featuring close, exciting games, as well as the best home-grown talent from Alabama and Mississippi over that time -- players who have gone on to enjoy tremendous success at both the NCAA and NFL levels.
Over 20 first-round NFL Draft picks have played in the contest since its inception, an impressive list that includes stars such as Antonio Langham, Deuce McAllister, Jason Campbell, John Copeland, Cadillac Williams, Steve McNair, Willie Anderson, Jamarcus Russell and Andre Smith, the sixth pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Over 80 former All-Star Classic players are currently listed on Southeastern Conference rosters. Among the current collegiate stars who played in recent Classics are 2008 Freshman All-American wide receivers Julio Jones of Alabama and Deandre Brown of Southern Miss, as well as 2009 Pre-Season All-SEC selections John Jerry of Ole Miss, Anthony Dixon of Mississippi State, Rolando McClain of Alabama and Antonio Coleman of Auburn.
The Mishkin Group recently took over complete management of the All-Star Classic. The group seeks to make the Classic the premier interstate high school all-star football event in the United States, while also showcasing and developing excellence in students and the community and raising funds and awareness for selected charitable agencies and academic scholarships throughout both states.
In addition to expanding the game's sponsorship and marketing bases, the Mishkin Group will also seek to develop new player, fan and charitable activities and game day events to be held in conjunction with the Classic that will be commensurate with the outstanding quality of players selected to play in the contest each year.
This year's All-Star Classic Week in Mobile will run from December 7-12, with the game set for Saturday, December 12.
Alabama leads the all-time series against its Mississippi counterparts with 15 victories in the 22 games including last December's 28-3 win, as St. Paul's quarterback A.J. McCarron, a University of Alabama signee, earned Alabama MVP honors with two TD passes.
